If you’re inviting back Jeremy Renner for a project, it better be for a good reason. Renner explained on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he originally took a break from the Mission: Impossible movie series because filming would take place internationally for a year and a half, and he didn’t want to be away from his daughter that long. He was invited back for a short while but did not like their reasoning. “They tried to bring me over for a week so they could kill my character. No, you don’t get to do that,” laughed Renner. “If you’re gonna do this to my character, you’re gonna do this right.” He also denied the rumors that Tom Cruise would hand off the series to him, acknowledging Cruise’s recent trend of reclaiming his most famous roles: “It’s Tom’s show.” However, Renner has a full plate already. He’s recovering from his snowplowing accident and starring in the latest season of Mayor of Kingstown. Maybe the most impossible mission of all was trying to stop Jeremy Renner.
