The existence of Nick Viall’s podcast, The Viall Files, has forced me to learn way too much about the 43-year-old’s relationship with his 25-year-old wife, Natalie Joy. I don’t want to know about their “logistically challenging” postpartum sex or that their relationship began in the Instagram DMs. Thanks to their podcast, I now also know every detail of their “nightmare” honeymoon, which includes a valuable lesson about passports.

According to Viall and Joy, things got off to a rough start on the way to the airport — with their daughter and Joy’s mother in tow — when they forgot a cowboy hat as well as Viall’s wallet. Stressful, but that wasn’t the worst part. When they arrived at their intended destination of Turks and Caicos, the customs agents noticed there was a torn page in Joy’s passport and ultimately said she would have to fly right back to the United States.

In the moment, said Viall, it felt like “a nightmare.” Joy went even further, describing the experience as their first major marital hurdle: “This was really a moment where Nick and I got to — not only did we have River in our arms and have to hold it together for our daughter — but also it really challenged us as husband and wife,” Joy said. “It was the first thing we had to conquer as husband and wife.”

Due to a delayed return flight, the couple ultimately got to spend one night at an “antique” hotel in the country and had “a nice dinner.” They also received a full refund from the resort they’d intended to stay at. Phew! The couple shared that they’re looking into alternative honeymoon destinations and are considering Puerto Rico, since Joy wouldn’t need her passport to go there. Good luck to the happy couple.
