Cycle219 Bike Share program to start

The Gary Public Transportation Corp. will launch the Cycle219 Bike Share program March 4, according to a release.

This initiative joins GPTC’s increased service and electric buses as part of the ongoing effort to provide more shared, low-cost, and eco-friendly transportation to Northwest Indiana, the release said. The first access hubs are planned for Miller, downtown Gary, near Indiana University Northwest and Ivy Tech in Gary, and Calumet College in Hammond.

The Cycle219 Bike Share program aims to provide stations at “mobility hubs” that offer information on mobility options available at each location, such as bike share and personal mobility, GPTC connections and commuter rail services, the release said. NIPSCO Accepting Applications for 2024 Environmental Action Grant

NIPSCO is accepting applications for its Environmental Action Grant to support local nonprofit organizations with their environmental restoration and education projects throughout northern Indiana.

Since 2016, NIPSCO’s Environmental Action Grant helped support 124 projects across northern Indiana. Last year, NIPSCO funded 15 diverse environmental restoration and education projects, including those focused on Monarch butterflies, habitat restoration, youth outdoor nature
education and sustainability programming.

Grants are available between $500 to $5,000. Applications will be accepted now through April 5, 2024, with awards being announced the week of April 22 in celebration of Earth Day.

Nonprofit organizations with an environmental restoration or education project are invited to submit a grant request at NiSource.GiveBesa.org/Grants/New. When applying online, applicants should select the “Environmental Stewardship” option in the Area of Impact drop-down box on the application. Applications should include a project description and goals, budget, target audience, timeline and evaluation method.

New executive committee members elected to NWIIWA

The Northwest Indiana Influential Women Association, a professional development association for women, recently elected new members to its
executive committee, according to a release.

The committee now consists of Mary Wright, Horizon Bank, chair; Aida Haigh, NiSource, vice chair; Robert Joseph, ArcelorMittal R&D,
secretary; Erica Dombey, Regional Development Co.; treasurer; and Andrea Pearman, Diversified Marketing Strategies, executive director.

NWIIWA has several events planned throughout 2024, including the Designer Purse & Sunglass Bingo fundraiser (March 6), the Influential Women of Northwest Indiana Awards Banquet (Sept. 26), and a new Professional Women’s Conference on Nov. 13, the release said.

Edgewater Health to honor public official, attorney at June 1 anniversary gala

Edgewater Health will host a gala celebrating 50 years in healthcare at 6:30 p.m. June 1 at Duneland Falls Banquet and Meeting Center in
Chesterton, a release said.

Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch and attorney Kenneth Allen will be honored at the event. Allen is founder of the Kenneth J. Allen Law Group and a
Gary native.

New COO named at Siltworm

Michael Lorenzo has been promoted to chief operating officer at Siltworm Inc., according to a release citing his experience with the
organization and his extensive background as a missionary, ministry professional and operations leader.

At Siltworm, Lorenzo has seen the company grow from a startup to a multi-division, multi-location organization that was named to Inc.
Magazine’s Inc. 5000 list in 2023, the release said.

Prior to his corporate endeavors, Lorenzo served as Pastoral Associate for Relational Ministry at St. John the Evangelist Church and created
a web of more than 30 different home-based small groups, among other endeavors, the release said.

Ivy Tech Foundation sets 20th anniversary scholarship event

Ivy Tech Foundation’s 20th spring fundraiser is planned for 5:30 p.m. April 12 at Aberdeen Manor, 216 Ballantrae, Valparaiso, according to a
release.

The event includes dinner, dancing, raffles, an online auction and live entertainment from ReTurn2Soul, a six-piece band from
Chicagoland, the release said.

Tickets are $90 and can be purchased at https://link.ivytech.edu/Spring2024 through April 5.
