J.Lo’s on a Boat in Italy Sans Ben Affleck

It feels like just yesterday the tabloids gifted us an image worthy of museum glass: one in which Ben Affleck grabbed a handful of his dream girl’s behind while lounging on a yacht in St.-Tropez. From that day on, it was as if Bennifer 2.0 had transcended the status of fanfic to something legitimate and tangible. The former couple’s second go at love got its own Hollywood rom-com, and the much-memed ass grab felt like the public’s ticket into the show. But as rumors of the potential demise of Bennifer (the sequel) continue to make their way into headlines, Thursday’s image of J.Lo on a boat in Italy is looking more like a sad callback than a memento from a carefree girls’ trip.

Per TMZ, Lopez was spotted boarding a boat in Positano Wednesday with some friends — no kids and certainly no Ben in sight. Under normal circumstances, I’d say that vacationing without your partner is healthy if not sometimes necessary for the soul. But given the flood of reports that Bennifer’s relationship is on the rocks, this little jaunt to Italy no longer feels innocent. (And Ben surely can’t be taking the image of his ripped wife glowing under the Positano sun well.)

For the time being, though, all is not lost. Sure, the couple is reportedly living separately with Ben shacking up in Brentwood, and TMZ adds that they’ve put the $60 million mansion they bought last year back on the market. That seems bad! But, as one source told People last month, “nothing has stopped their love over the years.” Perhaps an Italian solo vacation and a little time apart is just what the doctor ordered.
