The fifth season of The Kardashians dropped on Wednesday and revealed an unlikely cameo: A series preview teased the moment that Kim Kardashian and Gypsy Rose Blanchard met.

“Hi, Gypsy,” Kardashian says before the two hug. Fans were surprised to see Blanchard appearing on the show, since neither she nor Kardashian has hinted at a meeting.

But the crossover isn’t completely out of the blue. Per TMZ, in November, Kardashian — who is passionate about prison reform — included the HBO documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest, about Blanchard’s involvement in the murder of her mother, Dee Dee, on her list of must-see true-crime series. At the time, Blanchard was still serving a ten-year sentence but thanked Kardashian on X. “Maybe we should unite forces together to make real change within the justice system,” she suggested.

Soon after Blanchard’s early release from prison in December, sources told TMZ that she felt like Kardashian “could provide guidance on how to navigate her newfound platform on social media, and use her voice to affect real change and advance her advocacy work.” Now, Blanchard has gained millions of followers on TikTok, and the reality series Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up is coming to Lifetime in June, so maybe Kardashian really was the right person to turn to for guidance.
