[ad_1]

Two women were killed Wednesday morning when their car entered an intersection near Wauconda and was hit by a dump truck.

The names of the women have not yet been released.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said the victims were the driver, a 48-year-old Waukegan woman, along with the backseat passenger, a 55-year-old Round Lake Beach woman. A front seat passenger, also a Round Lake Beach woman, was hurt but her injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said.

The collision happened at around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Fairfield and Chardon roads.

Police said the dump truck, driven by a Round Lake Park man, was headed north on Fairfield when the car, a 2007 Nissan Versa headed west on Chardon, entered the intersection directly into the truck’s path.

The front of the truck hit the driver’s side of the Nissan, which caused the truck to tip onto its side, spilling its load of loose concrete, police said.

Police said the truck had the right of way at the intersection.

The accident remains under investigation, police said.
