In a situation straight out of Zoolander, a model is claiming that he’s been fired from working at the Met Gala this year because he’s too hot. Eugenio Casnighi, a model who is indeed very handsome, is going viral on TikTok for saying he hasn’t been invited back to the Met Gala this year after making too much of an impression at last year’s fête.

“I just got fired from the Met Gala,” he said in his first video. “I’ve never talked about this because I was under NDAs. Funny enough, they fired me so I can say whatever I want now.” I am not totally sure that’s how an NDA works, but Casnighi spilled nonetheless.

“I’ve been working for the Met Gala as a model and greeter — 2022 and 2023 — and I was supposed to do it this year,” Casnighi explained. “It’s Friday and the Met Gala is on Monday, and they let me know today that they cut me off; they fired me because I went viral last year.” Casnighi was careful to mention that his employer was an unnamed company that was contracted to handle staffing for the event, not Vogue or the Met.

Last year, Casnighi says he was assigned to escort Kylie Jenner throughout the evening. In photos from the event, you can see him in the background holding her purse. Unfortunately, because he’s a model, even when he was just standing still he was drawing too much attention. That does seem like something you’d want to think about before hiring a bunch of really hot guys to stand around at your event. At the time, one TikTok user made this helpful mini-compilation of them chilling in the background of the Vogue livestream.

In a second video, Casnighi claimed that he was not the only model who was released from greeting duties this year, although he didn’t elaborate on that point. He then shared screenshots of texts and emails purporting to show that he had been hired to work at the Met Gala this year and that he was asked to sign an NDA that would prohibit him from posting any photos from the event during or after the fact. He was later told he wasn’t going to be doing the job at all.

When reached for comment, Casnighi said that the whole situation was upsetting to him. “I have to say that I am sad I am not going, to be honest,” he said in an email to the Cut. “It was a big surprise for me unfortunately. I have decided to tell my story for the disappointment but absolutely not with defamation. I am a big fan of the event, and I have all respect for the foundation.”

While he may be disappointed, there is a bright side to all of this. Casnighi is clearly having fun posting his Met Gala photos to Instagram.
