SCHOOL HEALTH: The city Health Department awarded a $112,500 contract to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center to operate a school-based health center, according to a notice filed in the City Record on Thursday. The hospital will operate a school health clinic that provides primary and preventive care services as well as confidential reproductive health care, the filing says.
AGING DATA: Roughly 70% of adults in New York say that they are in “excellent” or “good” health, but some reported challenges finding housing and mental health care, according to a survey released by the state’s Office for the Aging on Thursday. The state conducted a community needs-assessment to identify challenges faced by the state’s aging population amid its process to establish a Master Plan on Aging. The survey, which the state deems the most comprehensive of its kind, included responses from 27,000 New Yorkers who were 60 years and older across all counties.
MATERNAL HEALTH: Gov. Kathy Hochul celebrated wins for maternal health care included in the fiscal year 2025 budget at a YMCA in Brooklyn Heights on Thursday, including making New York the first state to offer prenatal medical leave and expanding access to doulas. Hochul also said the budget allocates $1.6 million to maternal mental health initiatives, including training more clinicians to provide mental health support to mothers and designating 988 crisis responders to specifically serve birthing and postpartum people.
