Panera Debuts Another Way to Wear Bread

If you saw God in Panera’s baguette purse, get ready to add another homage to fast-casual cuisine to your closet: a jaunty hat inspired by the chain’s iconic bread bowls. On Monday — just in time for the Kentucky Derby — Panera announced the arrival of the “Bread Head,” a “fascinator-style” accessory that nestles a 3-D-printed replica of everyone’s favorite cheddar-broccoli soup vessel in a bed of bright-green ostrich feathers. The hat, which was designed by the embellished sunglass purveyors at A-Morir Studio, also features a gold spoon sticking out from the synthetic bread bowl’s mouth.

Seemingly undeterred by wrongful-death lawsuits stemming from its Charged Lemonade, Panera is offering the Bread Head online for $21. Though I personally feel it should have been called the Bread Bowler, and that the entire hat should instead be an upside-down bread bowl so that you can pour your forehead into it like a ladle full of bistro French onion, this way is also fine, I guess. Over/under it ends up on the next season of And Just Like That …?
