A St. Charles Township man died in a single-vehicle crash in the township Friday morning, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

Alexander C. Enskat, 31, of the 40W300 block of Oliver Wendell Holmes Street in St. Charles Township, died in the crash, which happened at 1:31 a.m. Friday at Route 64 near Anderson Road in the township, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

After responding to the scene, Kane County Sheriff’s deputies found a red 2007 Mercedes-Benz C280 facing eastbound in a north ditch, the release stated. The vehicle had significant front-end damage from a head-on crash with a utility pole, officials said.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the car being driven by Enskat was eastbound on Route 64, just east of Anderson Road, when it left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a utility pole, according to the release.

Enskat was alone in the vehicle when the crash happened, officials said.
