2 killed in separate hit-and-runs on I-94, State Police say



Illinois State Police are investigating after two people were killed in separate hit-and-run incidents on the Dan Ryan Expressway, both near 47th Street.

The first hit-and-run occurred about 10:45 p.m. Saturday in the northbound lanes of Interstate Highway 94 near 47th Street. A driver got out of a car after it stalled in the left lane and was struck by a passing vehicle that did not stop, State Police said.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene. All northbound lanes near the site were closed for investigation and reopened shortly after 3:30 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.

The second hit-and-run occurred about 4:15 a.m. Sunday. A pedestrian was struck in the southbound lanes near 47th Street by a vehicle that did not stop, State Police said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. All southbound lanes near the site were closed until 9:20 a.m. Sunday.
