Introducing the 2023-24 Beacon-News/Courier-News Boys Basketball All-Area Team


Players from Waubonsie Valley, West Aurora, Oswego East and Class 1A state finalist Aurora Christian lead the way.

First Team

Will Ashford, Metea Valley, senior, forward: Averaged 17 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists for Mustangs. All-conference.

Jordan Brooks, West Aurora, senior, guard: Averaged 14.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists for Southwest Prairie West co-champs. All-conference. Committed to North Central College.

Tyreek Coleman, Waubonsie Valley, junior, point guard: Averaged team highs of 14.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 steals for DuPage Valley Conference champs. Third team all-state by IBCA, honorable mention by media. Named conference MVP.

Jason Jakstys, Yorkville, senior, forward: Averaged 16 points and 9.0 rebounds. Topped 1,000 points for career. All-conference. Third team all-state. Committed to Illinois.

Jehvion Starwood, Oswego East, senior, guard: Averaged 15.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals for Southwest Prairie West co-champs. Topped 1,000 points for career. Set scoring mark at Hinsdale Christmas Classic with 37 points. McDonald’s All-American nominee. Special mention all-state by IBCA, honorable mention by media. Committed to Wyoming.

Second Team

Jalen Bealer, East Aurora, senior, guard: Averaged 19.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists. 2.0 steals. Topped 1,000 points for career. All-conference.

Treshawn Blissett, Waubonsie Valley, senior, guard/forward: Averaged 12.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists as the Warriors opened the season with a program-record 23 straight wins. All-conference.

Troyer Carlson, Kaneland, senior, guard: Averaged 18 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists for Interstate Eight Conference champs. Program’s all-time scoring leader. Special mention all-state by IBCA, honorable mention by media. All-conference. Committed to Wisconsin-Whitewater for football.

Nathan Scearce, Bartlett, senior, guard: Averaged 19 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.5 steals. Topped 1,000 points for career. Scored program-record 45 points vs. Marian Central. Led Hawks to 19 wins after top player transferred late in summer. All-conference.

Terrence Smith, West Aurora, junior, forward: Averaged 13.7 points and 7.2 rebounds. Special mention all-state. All-conference. Has multiple Division I scholarship offers for basketball and football.

Third Team

Marshawn Cocroft, Aurora Christian, sophomore, guard: Averaged 16.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.3 steals. First team all-state by IBCA, second team by media. All-conference.

Freddy Hassan, Kaneland, junior, forward: Averaged 14 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocked shots. Plano Christmas Classic MVP. Among those receiving votes for honorable mention all-state by the media. All-conference.

Nate Nazos, Batavia, senior, guard: Averaged 11 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 3.0 steals. Special mention all-state. All-conference. Considering several small school offers.

James Parker, Metea Valley, senior, guard: Ended up averaging 12 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists. All-conference. Committed to Waubonsee Community College.

CJ Savage, West Aurora, senior, guard: Averaged 12 points and 4.0 assists. Topped 1,000 points for career. All-conference Committed to Waubonsee Community College.
