UIC fires Luke Yaklich as men’s basketball coach after the Flames went 47-70 in his 4 seasons

UIC will be looking for a new men’s basketball coach after announcing Sunday night it has fired Luke Yaklich after four seasons.

The Flames posted a 47-70 record under Yaklich that included a 23-52 mark in conference play. After leaving the Horizon League for the Missouri Valley Conference in 2022, UIC finished 11th with a 4-16 record each of the last two seasons.

Yaklich, 47, came to UIC after a successful high school coaching career in Illinois at Sterling, LaSalle-Peru and Joliet West, followed by college assistant stints at Illinois State, Michigan and Texas.

“After a thorough evaluation, we determined the time has come for a change,” athletic director Michael Lipitz said in a statement. “We sincerely thank Luke for his leadership over the past four seasons. He is a man of integrity and is genuinely invested in the well-being of his student-athletes. We wish him and his family every future success.”
