3 murders on NYC subways this year come amid costly NYPD surge, vast surveillance

A 45-year-old man was killed at the 182-183 Street station in the Bronx Friday morning, making him the third murder victim in the subway system this year.

The NYPD transit chief insisted the police presence is “paying dividends" — while acknowledging a 45% increase in overall crime in January compared to last year. [ more › ]
