The Oak Brook Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own, with the passing Friday of firefighter/paramedic Tom Sinclair.
Serving in that capacity for the village for nearly eight years, Sinclair battled a rare form of Acute Myeloid Leukemia for the past eight months, according to information from the fire department.
During his tenure in Oak Brook, Sinclair held numerous certifications with the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal and also served on the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) and also served on the MABAS Division 13 Hazardous Material Team.
“Tommy was a master of his craft and passionate about the fire service,” Oak Brook Fire Chief Kevin Fleege said. “Tommy was always there when you needed someone, no matter what the request.
“Tommy was a bright light around the firehouse and his presence always brought about an infectious laughter.”
Prior to joining the Oak Brook department, Sinclair served for 17 combined years with the Roberts Park and Plainfield Fire Protection Districts.
“Outside of the firehouse, Tommy was a devoted family man and lover of the outdoors,” Fleege said. “If Tommy wasn’t spending time with his family, he was spending time hunting or fishing.”
Visitation is scheduled from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Kaminski Family Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 7861 S. 88th Avenue, Justice. Interment is private.
Those wishing to make donations in Sinclair’s name are asked to do so to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Illinois, www.lls.org/il.
