Oregon man fatally injured in McHenry-area crash

An Oregon man died over the weekend from injuries he sustained in a traffic crash last week near McHenry, according to the Lake County coroner’s office.

He was identified as Nathan Russell, 39. Russell died Sunday at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he had been brought by helicopter following the collision.

Authorities said Russell was headed north on South River Road at 7:19 a.m. Thursday when he attempted to pass another vehicle. Russell’s Ford van then ran into a southbound vehicle in the southbound lane. Russell was ejected from the van.

Authorities said Russell was a resident of Jacksonville, Ore., but had family ties to the Island Lake area. The crash remains under investigation by McHenry County authorities.
