Gary police searching for suspects in Wednesday shooting

Gary Police are looking for the gunmen involved in Wednesday afternoon shooting on the city’s west side.

Gary Police spokesman Cmdr. Sam Roberts said in an email Friday that two men — aged 18 and 19 — were leaving an apartment in the 2900 block of W. 12th Avenue when they were shot by unknown subjects. A witness told police that they were driving in the area when people in a black SUV began shooting at the two men, Roberts said.

The witness came to their aid after the SUV fled, Roberts said.

When the witness offered the victims a ride to the hospital, the 18-year-old declined, saying he was only grazed, while the older man was taken to Methodist Hospital’s Northlake campus in Gary, Roberts said.

Gary Police Sgt. William Fazekas is investigating and can be reached at (219) 881-1210.
