Cam’ron Doesn’t Think His CNN Interview Went So Badly

In the wake of a horrifying video showing Sean “Diddy” Combs physically assaulting Casandra “Cassie” Ventura in a hotel in 2016, news outlets have been eager to speak with anyone remotely connected to the disgraced mogul. His former bodyguard told Piers Morgan he’d seen Diddy do “things of this nature” before; CNN interviewed a woman who worked as his assistant in 2009 about whether she was surprised. Also being asked to weigh in on CNN: Cam’ron, another hip-hop heavyweight from Harlem whose friend and podcast co-host, Ma$e, was signed to Diddy’s label, Bad Boy Records, for over two decades. However, Cam’ron seemed more interested in plugging his sex supplement and podcast.

Cam’ron began his segment with Abby Phillip by condemning Diddy’s behavior as “egregious” and “disgusting.” But things started to go off the rails when she asked if he recognized “that kind of anger,” and he offered a shrugging “I didn’t do a zoom-in to see if it was really him.” A few questions later, there was a pause in the conversation while he knocked back several gulps from a tiny jar of pink liquid. “Sorry, I’m going to get some cheeks after this. Horse Power joint.” The drink, Pink Horse Power, appears to be Cam’ron’s own brand of libido-boosting juice, described on the website as an “all natural supplement designed to empower man’s sexual intimacy by helping to improve stamina and libido.”

Phillip attempted to press on, asking Cam’ron about how the music industry might have allowed Diddy to get away with his alleged crimes. Instead of answering, he suddenly asked, “Who the talent agent for this joint? You think I be sitting around, watching what Diddy do and all this? I didn’t know this was a Diddy joint that y’all invited me to. Who booked me for this joint?”

Frankly, I am wondering the same, though Cam’ron clarified during a Tuesday recording of his show that he did know what he was getting into. “You call me on CNN for the bullshit, imma give you the bullshit,” he said, accusing the network of trying to “use me.” “Y’all call us up there for that and don’t invite us to talk about shit that’s positive,” he said, adding that he took advantage of the “free promo.” He suggested CNN bookers should have known not to expect straight answers from him, referencing two confrontational interviews — one with Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly and another from 60 Minutes — from the early aughts. “This what I do on them joints,” he said.

I guess you can’t accuse him of inconsistency.
