Kylie Jenner Made Jeans. We Tried Them.

Ms. Kylie Jenner created her brand Khy in November of last year. Since then, there have been five “drops,” each with different pieces like tees and sweats. For the latest drop, 005, she teamed up with denim expert Natasha Zinko, a Ukraine-born, London-based designer. The jeans come in three rises — low rise, high rise, and straight leg — and three washes — light, medium, and dark. Each pair is $118. The size range is from 23 inches to 34 inches, 16W to 24W. Kylie is known for her baggy jeans, so we put them to the test on four different bodies.

Fits: True to size

Overall I like the look, shape, and feel; they’re not stretchy but are pretty baggy and loose throughout the leg so they don’t look constricted. I like where the waist hits until I have to sit down and then that lack of stretch comes into play, so I wouldn’t wear these to a dinner or any event where I plan on sitting for a long time. They fit true to size, so maybe sizing up would help with the tightness at the waist. They’re not short-girl friendly, so my Sambas are out, but the shape looks nice with a little heel. I’d also follow the instructions and wash before wearing because there was a chlorine smell, which is not Kylie Jenner’s fault, probably, but something to keep in mind.

Fits: Extremely oversize

Kylie, girl, I’m sorry, but what is happening here? I love and appreciate the oversize aesthetic; in fact, baggy jeans are a staple in my wardrobe, so I was excited to try these. But they are oversize to the point of being unwearable. I felt like I was swimming in them because they practically fell off my waist. Not to mention that they are several inches too long and dragged on the floor, even with heels. (I’m five-foot-eight and ordered my normal size 27, for reference.) It’s a shame because I love the ultradark wash and low waist. The wide-leg shape also has potential, but I’m not sure getting them tailored is worth it. Sigh.

Although I like the wide-leg silhouette and generally lean toward a baggy, oversize fit, these are way too big. I took my usual size, and they are not only too long but too roomy in the butt, thighs, and waist. I walked around in them for an afternoon and, without a belt, felt as though they’d slide down to my ankles in the middle of the sidewalk — not an ideal fit for denim. I know they’re supposed to be oversize, but how big is too big?

I love anything oversize and baggy, but I love baggy pants with shape. These were just baggy on me. As someone with curves, baggy pants with no silhouette often lose my shape, especially when the waist isn’t tailored to curves. After trying the pants on with pointy-toe shoes, I liked them more because they effortlessly fell over them. So they’ll probably be more of a dress-up pair of jeans for me, especially in the darker color. I doubt I’ll pick them up daily. (But Kylie’s sister Khloe Kardashian has me as a customer forever with Good American denim because the pants are tailored to fit curves seamlessly.)
