It’s hard to know what to expect when Taylor Swift invites you over for dinner. For one thing, it will probably happen in a $50 million Tribeca loft that has recently housed both Sophie Turner and Travis Kelce. For another, there might be a large fire. That is apparently what happened when Swift hosted 24-year-old musician Gracie Abrams for what sounds like a very Taylor Swift hang that nearly ended in catastrophe.

In a Billboard interview, Abrams, who opened for Swift during the 2023 stretch of her Eras tour, shared that she and Swift co-wrote one of the tracks from Abrams’s upcoming sophomore album during a drunken dinner-and-songwriting session at the older singer’s Tribeca home six months ago. At some point — the timeline is supremely hazy here — they heard a sound that Swift assured Abrams was “one of her cats thumping around.” Later that night-slash-morning — again, unclear when, but they’d already finished writing their collab — they found out the sound had actually been a candle falling over, and Swift’s kitchen island was currently on fire. Abrams said Swift grabbed a fire extinguisher — “I don’t know how at this hour or in our state she knew what to do” — and put out the fire, while Abrams, naturally, took a video. For this, Abrams deems her a “legend.”

The fire apparently went out circa 6 a.m., but Abrams says she and Swift “had an insane cough from the fire extinguisher fumes for weeks.” At least it didn’t ruin the tour.
