‘Netflix House’ Rolls Right Off the Tongue (and Into a Mall Near You)

Netflix House? Netflix House. It just doesn’t sound right. “Netflix House” feels wrong in the mouth — but I guess if the streamer is going for a Disneyesque empire, it’s better than Netflix Land. Either way, it’s happening: Netflix is moving from the digital space to the physical by buying up dearly departed department stores (now there’s a phrase that works). The first two Netflix Houses will open in malls in Dallas, Texas, and King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, in 2025 per a press release. Netflix Houses will be “immersive” Netflix experiences in which visitors can “indulge in retail therapy and get a taste — literally — of your favorite Netflix series and films through unique food and drink offerings,” according to Netflix’s chief marketing officer, Marian Lee. Both initial Netflix Houses will span 100,000 feet, and outside the spaces will be “eye-popping sculptures.” We saw what happened in the mall at the end of Stranger Things season three … “eye-popping” sounds like a threat.
