At the 2024 Tony Awards, moms worldwide were heard gasping as Angelina Jolie achieved what many have been trying to do for years: convince their teenage daughter to match with them. Jolie and her 15-year-old daughter, Vivienne, wore matching custom outfits by Atelier Versace and walked the red carpet hand in hand. Another win for moms! Jolie’s teal gown was a stunning ensemble made from draping velvet, complete with a matching shawl and thick bangles on her wrist; the look perfectly corresponded to Vivienne’s teal vest, trousers, and bow tie over a crisp white shirt. Together, they completely shamed any other attempt at Mommy-and-me dressing for the next year, at least. (If that isn’t a clear message on Father’s Day, I don’t know what is.)
The duo were present to celebrate The Outsiders, the musical that Jolie helped produce and Vivienne worked on as a production assistant. Aside from the fact that Vivienne is a very young person already working in theater, she also made recent headlines when someone noted that she went by “Vivienne Jolie” and not “Vivienne Jolie-Pitt” in the Playbill, dropping her father’s last name. The Broadway musical premiered in April to critical acclaim, and on Sunday night, it won four of the 12 awards it was nominated for, including Best Musical, which now makes both Jolies Tony Award winners. The matching looks and Tony win aside, another sweet moment occurred when director Danya Taymor won the Best Direction of a Musical award and gave the duo a shout-out, the camera panning to Vivienne in the audience with tears in her eyes. It was a good night to be a Jolie, that’s for sure.
