Naming a child is a very personal decision, but lately it feels like celebrities are in a competition to see who can give their kid the most unconventional name. For example, Glee star Darren Criss, who revealed earlier this week that he and his wife, Mia Swier, named their second child Brother Laszlo.
“M & D just delivered their follow-up single,” Criss captioned a photo of Brother on Instagram, followed by his full name. Per CNN, Criss added another line to the caption — “And yes his first name is Brother” — after receiving dozens of comments from curious people wondering if the name was real. One fan wrote, “Darren my love, my world, my pookie bookie bear … you did not just name your child BROTHER.”

In Criss and Swier’s defense, Brother is a younger brother to 2-year-old big sister Bluesy Belle. In 2022, Criss told the hosts of The View that Bluesy’s name was inspired by the fact that her parents are musicians and by her grandfather’s blue eyes. “My father had very blue eyes,” he said.
Brother joins the 2024 class of unusual baby names that so far includes actress Hilary Duff’s daughter Townes Meadow, singer Anne-Marie’s daughter Seven, influencer Nara Smith’s daughter Whimsy Lou, and reality-TV personality Lucy Watson’s son Willoughby. And that’s this year alone. Brother might be a tough name to top, but Justin and Hailey Bieber have the opportunity to do something really funny here.
