There’s No Place for Bigotry at an Adele Show

Post-pandemic concert environments have devolved into scenes of total bedlam, as fans have hurled everything from sex toys to Ziploc bags of human ashes at mostly women performers like Bebe Rexha, Kelsea Ballerini, and Billie Eilish. But on the first eve of Pride Month — an all but holy night within the queer community — Adele caught wind of an audience member hurling anti-LGBTQ+ insults in between songs. In keeping with her own fuck-around-and-find-out ethos, the singer stopped her Las Vegas show to chastise the heckler who, according to People, said, “Pride sucks.”

“Did you come to my fucking show and just say that ‘Pride sucks?’ Are you fucking stupid?” Adele bellowed out at the fan. “Don’t be so fucking ridiculous. If you’ve got nothing nice to say, shut up. All right?”

Not only do I want to put “if you’ve got nothing nice to say, shut up” on an embroidered pillow, but this, my friends, is what we call bare-minimum allyship in practice. The crowd at Caesars Palace’s Colosseum erupted into cheers, per a fan-caught video of the moment, before the 36-year-old resumed the performance as part of her Weekends with Adele residency. Clearly, this fan was uneducated in the History of Adele Shows department: During a July show last year, the singer “fucking dare[d]” fans to throw something at her. With a T-shirt cannon in hand, she smirked as she provoked any unruly members of the audience to test her limits: “I’ll fucking kill you,” she joked. Or, at least, I think it was a joke? Right?? Anyways, I’m going to assume Adele’s message was received loud and clear. No bigots at Adele shows, and especially not during Pride Month.
