Dogs can be real bitches. Paul Schrader was reminded of just how bad it can get while dining at home with the Scorseses. In a May 9 interview with Variety, Schrader described a particularly frightening Scorsese gathering from late last year, in which Francesca Scorsese’s dog (no, not the puppy) bit off a piece of his thumb. “[Scorsese] has a Scottie, which is a problematic dog,” he said. “It was his daughter’s dog. He doesn’t like the dog, but they have to keep him and blah, blah, blah.” When Schrader went to pet the dog, “the Scottie not only took out part of my thumb, he ate it.” The director was fine because “Marty has an in-house nurse.” Hopefully, Francesca wasn’t too scarred from seeing a piece of Schrader’s thumb in a doggy bag the next day.
