Netflix Edited Out Kim Kardashian Getting Booed

Anyone who watched Netflix’s Tom Brady roast when it aired live on Sunday night — or caught clips afterward — saw the uncomfortable moment when Kim Kardashian was booed by the audience before she could tell a single joke. But those watching the version of the roast that’s now on Netflix won’t see that, because the streamer has edited it out.

During the live broadcast, after Kevin Hart introduced Kardashian, she walked to the stage, where she was met with booing loud enough that Hart could be heard saying, “Whoa, whoa, whoa.” Meanwhile, Kardashian smiled awkwardly, saying, “All right, all right, all right,” before beginning her set. The crowd eventually seemed to come around, laughing at her jokes about her rumored fling with Brady, her father’s involvement in O.J. Simpson’s murder trial, and Caitlyn Jenner.

But in the edited version of the roast now on Netflix, Kardashian gets onstage and thanks Hart for introducing her, and the camera cuts to her telling a joke as the crowd laughs, skipping the booing, per Entertainment Weekly. Netflix now has a disclaimer that says the roast is “edited from a previous livestream.”

It’s at least the second recent instance of a corporation editing out an awkward moment that people watched happen live. During the Super Bowl, Alicia Keys’s voice audibly cracked at the start of “If I Ain’t Got You,” but when the NFL uploaded a video of the performance to YouTube, the crack had been edited out. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all edit our most mortifying moments from the internet?
