Mayor Adams vows to remove parking spots from 1,000 NYC intersections every year



A photo showing "daylighting" redesign at Gates and Vanderbilt Avenues, a treatment where parking is eliminated near intersections so cars and pedestrians are more visible.

The city DOT "daylit" the intersection at Gates and Vanderbilt Avenues after a 3-month-old baby was killed by a driver, but locals say they feel it hasn't helped discourage reckless driving in the area.

The street safety measure, called “daylighting,” is meant to reduce pedestrian deaths. Officials said traffic fatalities will also be recorded for the first time in CompStat, the NYPD’s weekly published crime data. [ more › ]
